It's catching.... the case for enthusiasm

it's always time to celebrate the positives

Amongst many others things that I am involved in ...... two interactions are worth a bit more thought and reflection.

I spent a day recently with a group of people who all work for one organisation. They broadly shared something that is not always universally the case - they cared passionately about what they did, they focussed on what was important and how they could improve.... they were heart-warmingly and overwhelmingly enthusiastic. It was a pleasure to briefly share some time with them. I came away from the gathering with a better outlook and faith in that group of people to achieve something really good.

I also spent time recently talking with an individual who sucked the life out of me. Time slowed down as the focus was on the negatives, the issues, the things-gone-wrong, and the who-is-to-blame and the what-about-ery. Rear view mirrors are great to ensure that we learn from the past (both good and bad) to make the future better, but.... conversations solely about the past without embracing the future have little relevance because we understand that we cannot change the past (unless you subscribe to the toils of the Ministry of Truth in George Orwells 1984 - who systematically rewrote the past to control the present). When the focus is on the negatives, the positives don't get heard.

It's always easier to spend time with the former rather than the latter. Enthusiasm is catching! However, its also part of our roles to spread the word, to confront the naysayers with the positives, to drag the unwilling to table in the hope that they might catch the bug - and care about making the future better.

We must never let the negative folk around us control the narrative. Positive action, improving the future, leading with passion and enthusiasm is the only way forward.

The case for enthusiasm? ....... it's catching!
